Back Pain Myth Busters

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy have created a great document busting myths around back pain. The link to the full article can be found here:

These are some of the key messages:

  1. Keep moving if you can! Evidence show it is best to return to activity and work as soon as you are able
  2. Back pain shouldn’t stop you from exercising. Even using weights appropriately can improve your pain
  3. A scan will often not be useful in diagnosing your back pain. Research shows that findings on scans do not always correlate with people’s symptoms
  4. The amount of pain you are in rarely equates to the level of damage. Pain is a complex experience affected by a large range of factors. See our recent blog post on pain for more information
