21st to 27th June is Love you Lungs Week

Asthma and Lung UK started this week to help raise awareness on how to keep you lungs healthy, as well as how to manage a lung condition

Keeping your Lungs Healthy

There are lots of ways that you can help to keep your lungs healthy, these include

  • Exercising regularly
  • Stopping smoking; advice on this can be found here
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Avoid pollutants whenever possible, including wearing any breathing devices you have been offered if you work with high risk chemicals

Managing a Lung Condition

There are many common lung conditions that can affect people, including Asthma, COPD or Fibrosis.

Some management techniques will vary depending on your condition, but key things to remember are:

  • Keep active; advice can be found on this here
  • If you smoke, get support to quit
  • Take time to understand your condition, you can read the NHS information or attend a Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme
  • Attend your regular reviews with your GP surgery or hospital
  • Take your medications as prescribed
