Therapists providing home visits in Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire
Breathing is the foundation of our health and wellbeing, enabling us to be active and vibrant. Many people do not breathe optimally and could improve their breathing pattern to be able to move more efficiently. Our local, experienced and specialised respiratory physiotherapists can assess your breathing and see where your breathing technique can be improved. This applies to people without a diagnosed breathing problem, as well as those who have complications with their airways or muscles required for breathing.
We understand that struggling with breathing can feel frightening. Having a specialist respiratory assessment with one of our team can help you gain control and manage your symptoms better. This can include:
– Understanding and optimising how you breathe
– Gain control of your breathing and movement
– Managing the feelings of breathlessness
– Medication management
– Chest clearance
– Reducing anxiety
– Pacing for fatigue
– How to exercise safely with a breathing disorder
– Using oxygen
– Managing chest infections
We commonly work with people with the following conditions:
– Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
– Asthma
The therapist will come to your home at a time that is convenient to you.
We will start by asking you about your experience of your condition and a little about your medical history. It is important for us to know what you are hoping to get out of having therapy so that we ensure the goals are realistic and treatment is individualised.
We often see how you move, observe how you breathe and take some observations (such as your pulse and oxygen levels) and monitor how you cope with exercise.
We will use the information from this assessment to develop a treatment programme that is specific to your goals and needs.
Treatment is tailored to the goals which are set with your therapist.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is an exercise and education programme delivered by the NHS. Research shows it’s a brilliant way to enable you to do more and feel confident in managing your condition, reducing feelings of anxiety. The NHS run several programmes around the area.
If you have completed your course of PR and would like to continue working on your exercise tolerance and symptoms, we can help you do this in your own home. Our team has experienced respiratory specialist physiotherapists and can help you achieve your potential and feel confident in managing your breathing condition.
